STAFF at North Ayrshire?s biggest plumbing and heating contractors are to be given the day off ? to celebrate the firm?s centenary.
All 230 workers at Stevenston based James Frew will have reasons to be cheerful as the firm marks its 100th birthday.
The company have also pledged to donated �19,110 to various charities to mark the year in which the firm was founded ? 1911.
Back then the average life expectancy was just 50; MPs voted to pay themselves a salary and James Frew, the great grandfather of the current managing director Roddy Frew, started his plumbing business.
The company flourished during the post-war housing boom focusing on plumbing and heating contracts.
Today they operate five divisions providing a range of building services from their headquarters which are still located on the original site.
As well as offices in Glasgow and Airdrie, the firm operates one of the biggest apprenticeship schemes in West Central Scotland.
Roddy Frew said: ?We were looking to do something which was inclusive to all staff and with the support of our customers, decided it would be good to give everyone they day off this Friday.
?We?ve been through some challenging times and are really proud to have continued to build the business.
?Our success has also been down to our very loyal staff. many of whom have celebrated 25 years with us and some with more than one family member working in the business.?
The company provides heating and maintenance services for 17,000 residents within 16 housing associations throughout Ayrshire and the central belt of Scotland. They also offer integrated building services including plumbing, heating, mechanical services, gas maintenance and property upgrades for both the public and private sector including design and installation.
