Aurora field workers have begun industrial action as part of their pay claim.

About 200 staff state-wide have begun rolling bans on reconnecting power to homes and businesses.

Aurora is offering a 1.5 per cent pay rise but the union wants the same rate of pay as the state-owned company's contractors.

Nicole Wells from the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union says while there will be connection delays the public's safety will not be compromised.

"Some of those bans will mean that there may be some delays in the reconnection of power to some residences and businesses but we will be attempting to keep that at an absolute minimum."

Ms Wells says the union is seeking a catch up payment in the first year as part of wage negotiations.

"They are behind what is being paid to other workers in Tasmania and that will still leave them the lowest paid for what they do in the country," she said.

"But we think that that is important, that they receive equity with what other Tasmanians are being paid for the same work."

Aurora's Ted Bradshaw, says a revised offer could be on the table by late this afternoon.

"To resolve the negotiations that's part of the normal process and that's what we will be doing."

"It's interesting though the action that's been taken today, the vote was taken by less than 25 per cent of our people to go on industrial action and a very small number of those people have taken industrial action today," he said.
