9/11 A DECADE LATER Chicago police conduct massive warrant sweep - Chicago Tribune

CHICAGO?

Chicago police say a recent three-day roundup of fugitives is one of the largest of its kind in the city.

The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/r50zYT) that the operation involved about 150 officers from gang enforcement. It's is part of a crime-reduction strategy implemented by Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy.

The sweep was conducted last week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in some of the city's neighborhood with the most violent crime.

The target was those who have been wanted on warrants for five years or more. The tactic has been used in other cities.

Leo Schmitz is the commander of the gang-enforcement unit. He says that people with warrants are more at risk to repeat crimes.
